A Little About Me

Amanda Kalmutz, Licensed Psychologist in Maine

I’m Amanda Kalmutz, PhD, a licensed psychologist seeing clients in Maine. I’m passionate about helping people navigate challenges that keep them feeling stuck and specialize in complex trauma, adoption-related experiences, anxiety, perfectionism, and people-pleasing, offering a supportive space to explore, heal, and create meaningful change.

Therapy with me is a collaborative process - I honor your unique experiences while offering guidance to support your growth. My warm, thoughtful approach draws from psychodynamic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic modalities to foster self-understanding, compassion, and healing. I also incorporate practical tools to ease symptoms and to help make daily life feel more manageable.

Outside of therapy, you’ll often find me exploring the outdoors or simply soaking in nature, experimenting in the kitchen, or getting lost in a great book or series. I also cherish time spent with the people (and pets!) I love - including my dog and two cats.

Specialties

I have extensive experience working with individuals who have experienced complex or relational trauma or who struggle with some aspect of their identities. Many of the people I work with grapple with perfectionism, people-pleasing, difficulty setting boundaries, and feeling disconnected from their true selves. I also specialize in supporting adoptees and members of the adoptive constellation as they navigate attachment, identity, and the unique emotional complexities of adoption.

Training

I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from Adelphi University and a master’s degree in child development from University College London. My clinical experience spans outpatient, hospital, and intensive care settings, including positions at North Central Bronx Hospital, Montefiore Hospital, and the William Alanson White Institute. I completed my postdoctoral training at Psychology Specialists of Maine, where I deepened my work in trauma-informed care, psychodynamic therapy, and experiential therapies such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
